7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
-Having a very real fear of the Lord is the foundation of everything we ever learn about God. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is numb to God’s inevitable judgment of sin and the fear that should bring. In general, people simply don’t believe that there is a God who will punish those who live contrary to His word. But if we fail to see that God’s Holiness is an essential part of who He is, how could we ever hope to learn anything else from Him? Consider, if God had no intention of judging iniquity, then why would we need a Savior, and if we have no need of a Savior, then Christ died in vain. But Christ did not die in vain. Lord’s anger with sin is real and the fear of His anger and forthcoming retribution should motivate us to learn more about God’s other aspects such as His mercy and His saving grace.
