Proverbs 26:13 -The slothful man saith…

Proverbs 26:13
The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
-Excuses are easy.  They are not always valid, but they are always easy.  Consider the instruction given in this Proverb: A lazy person will make any excuse to get out of getting the job done, no matter how farfetched.  We can see this play our in our homes, our schools, and certainly our jobs; but we will never see this Proverb in action better than in service of the Lord.  When it comes time to read the Bible, or pray, or go to church; the excuses come hot and heavy.  Anything to free us up for some more slothfulness.  Certainly it is easy to just sit back and coast through life, but that’s why the Bible warns us about “redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16)  No one accidentally follows God; if we follow Him it will be an act of will and diligence on our part.  Sometimes legitimate reasons come along and those should be weighed accordingly, but the next time an excuse gets between you and God, take the time to consider whether it’s a valid reason or just a case of “a lion in the streets.”
