Isaiah 42:8 – Glory to God Alone

Isaiah 42:8
8
I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

-When we read this verse, it’s easy to dismiss the warning from God as simply applying to idols, false gods and graven images.  But notice that God insists that He will not give His glory to another, any other.  Consider that if we are not operating solely through the power of God, that means we are either relying on our own strength or seeking praise and motivation from those around us which puts us into the same category as all of the false teachers that lead people astray and the false idols that the Lord hates.  “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?” (John 5:44)  God will only honor those who live through the power of Christ, and here Christ Himself questions the faith of any who live by any other means or for any other benefit.
