9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
-Animals such as these, for all of their intelligence, are prideful and stubborn. By their nature they won’t obey the sound of their master’s voice and so they have to be forced into obedience with bridles and reins. The Lord has lots of experience with another creature that is easily as prideful and stubborn as the worst horse or mule. Humans. The Lord implores us to listen to the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:15), He seeks to reason with us so that we can see that obeying Him is the best thing for us (Isaiah 1:18); but we won’t listen. “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Romans 14:11) The day is coming where the Lord will exercise His authority as Creator over all of creation; I urge you to obey the Lord’s voice now and save yourself the agony of the bit and bridle later.
