John 21:20-22 -Follow Thou Me

John 21:20-22
20
Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

-After restoring Peter following his denial, the Lord calls him to service.  Peter immediately focuses on what work will be given to John prompting the Lord to admonish Peter for being focused on the responsibilities of others instead of his own work.  This is a great lesson for us all to take to heart, but I wanted to look at Jesus’ admonishment from a different perspective.  Oftentimes we compare ourselves with those around us; when we find those who have more or seem more successful, we feel inferior or inadequate.  It is important to remember that nothing in the world happens outside of the Lord’s purview and if someone is “rich”, it is because the Lord made them rich; if someone is “poor”, it is because the Lord made them poor.  The Lord’s advice to us would be the same advice He gave peter:  If he made you a janitor and made another a Governor; what is that to thee?  Just follow Jesus.
