Titus 1:15-16 -The Profession and Performance of Faith

Titus 1:15-16
15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
-A profession of faith is important.  In fact, it is one of the most important things that a person can have.  But what is a profession if person’s lifestyle tells a different story?  The Bible teaches that “faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”  (James 2:17)  Here in Titus, Paul warns Titus to be on the lookout for those whom he calls “abominable” and “reprobate”.  The warning is preserved for each of us as well.  We need to be on the lookout for those who profess Jesus in word, but deny Him in deed.  We need to make sure we aren’t following them.  We need to make sure that we aren’t learning from them.  Most importantly, we need to make sure that we are not them.
