10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
-This should be a sobering thought to all of us; Satan stands before God and accuses us day and night. Every word of doubt and guilt that plays out in our heads is echoed with unholy hatred in the ears of the Almighty Himself. The whole scene reminds me of a courtroom with Satan as a vengeful prosecutor. We can’t have a defense attorney, because we’ve already been declared guilty. We have something better though; a Great High Priest. If we had a lawyer, we would have to depend on a persuasive argument to win our souls. But instead of an argument, our Savior offers His own blood to pay for our transgressions. He stands in our defense just as he stood to face those who accused the woman caught in adultery (John 8); not to defend our innocence, but to renounce our condemnation. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)
