33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
-I took a pretty nasty fall last weekend. I was doing something that I had done many times before, only this time, it put me on my back and onto a root protruding from the ground. Now even the slightest movement is a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong. We all know this to be real and true, but it’s human nature to keep such ideas at arm’s length. We dismiss it as the kind of thing that happens to other people. But when it’s your car that starts spinning out of control or it’s your block where the tornado touches down, reality becomes much more real and the truth gets a lot, well, truer. There are a million things that can happen to us every day; and while that can be overwhelming, it’s really just a million more reasons to focus on the Lord. We have countless hairs on our heads and yet the Lord has counted them (Luke 12:7); there are countless stars in the sky and yet the Lord has named them (Psalm 147:4), there are countless afflictions that we will face and yet the Lord can deliver us out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)
