22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Our culture has a way of diminishing everything- violence, sex, profanity and many other things that were once taboo are now simply commonplace. Marriage is another area that has lost its intrinsic importance in the modern age. One out of every two marriages can expect to end badly and the reason is that people simply do not take it seriously anymore. Marriage is not a product of man to be entered into for sake of convenience or infatuation, neither is it an institution of the state to be taken and left like the deed to a house. Marriage is a gift from the Lord as an answer to man’s need for companionship. The Bible teaches that “to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Luke 12:48) and that is definitely true in this case. During marriage, a man and a woman each make a vow before the Lord to ensure the sanctity of that relationship and such vows need to be upheld. It won’t always be easy, but having problems doesn’t mean you have “fallen out of love” and infidelity is never an answer to boredom or need.
