Psalm 15:1-5 – Righteous Servant

Psalm 15:1-5
Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

-There you have it.  Neatly summed up in 5 verses of scripture, the Lord provides us with the recipe for a righteous person; the recipe for one who shall dwell in the Lord’s tabernacle and never be moved.  As quickly as we understand what these verses demand, we should just as quickly realize that we cannot hope to abide by their standards; none of us could.  Who then can be saved?  Just as Jesus responded to His disciples in Matthew 19:26, so is His response to any who will ask Him that question, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”  So it is that in the absence of any man or woman who could fulfill these verses, the Lord Himself became One who fulfilled them; thereby becoming the Righteous Servant who justifies many. (Isaiah 53:11)
