Deuteronomy 13:1-3 – Signs, Wonders, and Truth

Deuteronomy 13:1-3
If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

-Jesus told us in Matthew 24:5 that, “many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”  As such, it shouldn’t surprise us that there are 100 different religions out there and seemingly more every day.  Some of these false philosophies may seem compelling and may even make sense to you, but it is important not to be duped by them.  It would be easy to follow behind someone who could work great works and persuade the masses, but calling down fire, healing the sick, or whatever else you can imagine is not the sign of God’s presence.  There is only one true test that is qualified to judge the spirits and it is given in 1 John 4:2-3, “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”  If someone doesn’t proclaim Jesus Christ as the foundation of everything, then it’s okay to deny them no matter who they are or what they can do.
