-It would be easy to criticize our nation’s government. It seems a large portion of Americans spend their time looking for new reasons to complain and our leaders are certainly quick to supply those reasons. Should any of us really be surprised, though? The U.S. government is just another world system, after all, so it’s going to fit right into Jesus’ teaching here in Mark 10. It’s nice to think that our politicians assumed their positions so that they could serve the people, but they are just going to exercise their power over the people just as the rulers of the world have always done. But don’t be discouraged. Our Republicans and our Democrats may not lead us the way we would choose, but at the end of all things, this world only has one King (Psalm 95:3) and He was righteous yesterday, He is righteous today, and He will be righteous forevermore. And “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.” (Proverbs 29:2)
