Hebrews 11:13-16
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
-Have you ever stayed in a hotel so nice that you decided to sell your house and move into the hotel? Me neither. I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years but no matter how nice they were, I’m always ready to leave after a few days. The reason is that no amount of excitement or amenity can long distract me from the fact that I’m just not home. So it should be for us and the Kingdom of Heaven. No matter how distracting this life can be, we should never lose sight of the fact that this earth is not our home. Jesus Himself promised to prepare a place for us in the Father’s house. (John 14:1-3) What’s more, unlike a 5-star hotel that may technically be nicer than our house, nothing on earth can even begin to compare to the eternal home that God Himself has prepared for us. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
