29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
–Romans 3:11 tells us that “there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” We live so much of our lives completely oblivious to the fact that God exists and that He is the “Judge of all the earth”. (Genesis 18:25) We sin right in the face of the God who is Holy and, in His mercy; He winks at our transgression (v30). Why does He wink? He must because He is “of purer eyes than to behold evil.” (Habakkuk 1:13) But He won’t wink forever. He has appointed a time when He will no longer exercise mercy and restraint, but will “judge the world in righteousness”. Jesus Christ will be the Judge and so Jesus Christ in the only hope any of us has when judgment comes.
